Literacy in your community and beyond
Many adults in Haldimand and Norfolk have reading, writing or math skills below high school level. The Haldimand-Norfolk Literacy Council’s dedicated volunteer tutors and staff work with adults who need to upgrade their skills.
Literacy may be defined as the ability to understand and employ printed information in daily activities, at home, at work, and in the community to achieve one’s goal and to develop one’s knowledge and potential.
In Canada, 42% of adults need some help with reading and writing, 50% need help with numeracy, and 68% need help with problem-solving (Adult Literacy and Life Skills (ALL) Survey, 2005).
For more information, visit the ABC Canada website.
In addition to providing one-to-one confidential tutoring to adult learners, small group classes are also available in order to receive more lesson time. Read more about our services for learners.
Volunteers are an asset to our organization. If you can give a few hours per week, we will train you for a life-changing experience.
